What is Somatic Exercise?
Somatic Exercises help release pent‑up stress, stored trauma, and survival energy from the body in a simple and practical way. These targeted movements work by gently activating the body’s natural discharge responses to complete the stress‑response cycles that were interrupted during overwhelming experiences. As the body unwinds these trapped patterns, people reconnect with themselves and access their innate capacity for self‑regulation, self‑healing, and physical and emotional relief.
When stress and emotional patterns stay rooted in the body, it can turn into emotional weight again, autoimmune disease, and a myriad of physical ailments.
The Somatic Exercise method draws from the Feldenkrais Method, Dr. Peter Levine’s work, and foundational Pilates principles.
In Waking the Tiger, Dr. Peter Levine explains that animals naturally shake and discharge survival energy after threat, preventing trauma.
Because of conditioning and self‑control, humans often interrupt these natural discharge responses, leaving survival energy stored in the nervous system. Trauma becomes the unfinished biological cycle — and healing begins when the body is finally allowed to complete it.
Somatic Exercise offers a gentle, accessible way to support that physical completion and bring you back to wholeness.
